Our committees bring together members who are committed to supporting sheriffs and advancing the work of the Association across Texas.
Our committees play a vital role in advancing the mission of the Sheriffs’ Association of Texas. Made up of dedicated members and leaders, each committee focuses on key areas that support sheriffs across the state, from training and legislation to member engagement and strategic initiatives.

Committee Members are appointed by the Sheriffs’ Association of Texas President. Please notify Executive Director Thomas Kerss if you would like to serve on a SAT Committee.
Committee Members must be Active Members in good standing.
This committee is composed of Sheriffs of counties with over 500,000 in population to identify and address issues specific to urban counties.
Members of the committee provide input as to the daily problems confronting the Sheriffs in maintaining a safe jail and complying with Commission rules and regulations.
Members are active participants in the legislative process and insure that all bills introduced which affect the duties, responsibilities, training, court and jail functions of the Sheriffs are given proper consideration. When a particular bill affects the Sheriffs, they will be notified so they may contact their Senators and Representatives concerning their views.
Composed of at least five (5) Sheriffs who shall meet at least once year or more if need be. This committee encourages membership from commissioned law enforcement officers, including reserve officers, correctional officers, security personnel and certain agency investigators to become Active members and to encourage individual members of the public who support local law enforcement and members of the business/professional community who support local law enforcement to become Associate/Business Members.
Seeks to preserve the history of the Sheriffs of Texas. The Committee shall meet at least once a year or more if need be to receive memorabilia, subject to the approval of the Board of Directors of the Sheriffs’ Association of Texas, to be housed in the Headquarters office in Austin, Texas. This committee also works with the corporate community to develop relationships and seek alternate funding for special projects of the association.
Members are composed of Sheriffs and law enforcement personnel from around the state. The committee provides input as to the education, training, and curriculum of the training program.
This committee is composed of Sheriffs and other law enforcement personnel. The committee engages in periodic reviews and makes recommendations relating to information technology including software and operating systems. The Committee will be responsible for studying current public safety radio communications infrastructure in Texas and addressing issues affecting the ability of all public safety providers in Texas to exchange information when and where it is needed even when disparate radio communications systems are involved.
